Lapis lazuli is one of the oldest known gemstones and has been used for jewelry and cult purposes since prehistoric times. It was highly valued as a sacred stone in the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mexico and the empires of the East. Egyptian priests believed that the earth rested on lapis lazuli, which gave the sky its color every day. They therefore called it the stone of heaven.

Alexander the Great brought the stone to Europe. Many important works of art can also be found here, e.g. a globe with a diameter of 60 cm and four large lapis lazuli columns in the Chiesa del Gesu (Church of Jesus) in Rome.

Storage and care tips:
